HOW TO CLEAN A FOOD THERMOMETER AND FOOD PROBE

Sanitising Instrument and Probe Wipes

Cleaning a Food Thermometer

Maintaining high levels of cleanliness and hygiene is good practice for all your thermometers, data loggers and instruments. This is particularly true when it comes to food industry or pharmachem/ laboratory applications. Both before and after you use your food thermometer, the entire unit including probe, probe handle, cable and the body of the thermometer, including any buttons or screen, should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised with high alcohol content wipes. This helps to eliminate bacteria and prevent cross contamination during food preparation or potential disease or infection during the cooking process.

Prior to inserting the thermometer probe into any food e.g. meat, diary or baked goods, particular attention should be paid to the thermometer penetration probe, ensuring it is completely clean and free of any food particles, grease or residue. The entire thermometer should be thoroughly wiped down also, paying particular attention to any areas that may be food traps e.g. around switches, edges of screen or probe and thermometer socket. Don't forget to clean the cable also. If necessary after cleaning, the thermometer may be dried with absorbent lint free disposable cloth.
