The probe aspect of your thermometer is the most sensitive element of your measurement system. Probes are generally plug-in or have a permanently connected stainless steel shaft (insertion probe), with handle/cable/plug or a 'wire' type - a small diameter cable with plug (air probe).
Probes will last many years if handled with care and maintained correctly, follow our Tips and Guidance on caring for your probes and check out our advice on how to clean your instruments and probes.
How to line up a Two Pin Plug
Some probes have two flat metal pins on the plug end that are different widths. Ensure these pins line up to their respective holes in the socket. Once lined up correctly they should slot in with ease.
Inserting a thermometer probe correctly
The specified temperature range of your thermometer and probe applies only to the stainless steel insertion shaft/tip. Please take care to ensure that the cable, handle and plug are not exposed to these high temperatures.
How to disconnect the probe correctly
Never disconnect the probe by pulling down on the cable. Always use the Plug to disconnect the probe otherwise, damage can occur e.g. internal wires will become weakened or broken and a replacement/new probe will be required.
How to prevent damage to your temperature probe
Never attempt to penetrate frozen products for example, with the probe, or use the probe as any kind of lever - damage can occur.
Techris Systems supply a wide range of replacement probes both for our own range of thermometers and compatible with other brands. Options include general insertion/immersion probes, air probes, surface probes and heavy duty probes for industrial applications.
