Chang Keui-fang who is a barista in a cafe in Taiwan called My Cofi, has hit the headlines recently with 3D latte art!
It is creating art by controlling coffee foam, creating layers and drawing with chocolate in a cup of coffee! Chang will take a cup of coffee with lots of foam on top and then shape it into various images, then decorate with coffee and/or chocolate. 3D latte art has become very popular over recent years.
Customers to Chang’s cafe ‘My Cofi’ have been requesting images of their pets (cats, dogs, etc) or cartoons. It can take Chang anything from 10 to 15 minutes to recreate. Chang is a skilful barista and has many videos of her foamy creations that you can watch online.
The best temperature for steamed milk is between 55°C and 62°C. Temperature is important to get the right texture of foam in order to create your 3D latte art. It can’t be too thin or it won’t work. Lots of practice is essential and experimenting with temperature and air during the steaming process will help you to create some wonderful, crafty 3D latte art.
