Ireland saw an increase in Covid from the end of the Summer and particularly when business, retailers, schools re-opened at the end of last year 2020 - did the temperature drop have anything to do with the spread of Covid-19?
During the winter months, colds and flu spread more easily and mostly because we are indoors, snuggling up to the fire with windows closed, coughing and sneezing with little or no fresh air circulating. So is it easy to assume that the same would apply to the spread of Covid 19? Also we tend to get far less vitamin D during the winter than in Summer time, so could this also have an affect?
We do know that when temperatures and relative humidity are high, viruses struggle to survive, colds and flu viruses survive much more in colder temperatures but we have no way of knowing if the temperature or weather conditions directly affect the spread Covid19 as viruses change yearly and therefore it is difficult to know if the weather is a contributory factor or if it is a combination of weather and/or close contact.
It’s still early days and as time passes we will learn more about the Covid 19 virus.
